One thought keeps jumping out at me as I walk through the exhibition Wreckless Abandon: confidence. I'm knee deep in Rostarr's world and I'm getting hit over the head with confident strokes, confident imagery, confident form and confident direction. As my eyes wander along the walls I begin to feel a rhythmic pulse slowly building inside of me. It's the pulse of the brushstrokes thrusting and exploding in abstract shapes and forms that is quietly making my eyes dance. At first glance, Rostarr’s strokes appear to be executed recklessly and with scarce consideration. But as the eye moves to this burgeoning rhythm, it becomes abundantly clear that these strokes contain an innate confidence and sense of direction. Instinctly, this leads to the realization that this is a man that knows where he’s been and knows exactly where he is going.
